About the Society

Library

The library of the Czech Zoological Society has been built up gradually since 1934 from periodicals, mainly of foreign origin, received in exchange for the journal Věstník Československé zoologické společnosti (since 1990 for the journal Acta Societatis Zoologicae Bohemoslovacae and since 1993 for the journal Acta Societatis Zoologicae Bohemicae).
At present, the library of the Czech Zoological Society contains a unique collection of 908 periodicals devoted to zoology and natural sciences that have been received in exchange from libraries in 69 countries worldwide. It includes about 21 600 volumes of various journals.
The library is frequently used by research workers of various scientific and research institutes, by university students and also by amateurs interested in the problems of biology, zoology, ecology and nature protection.
During its existence the Czech Zoological Society has had ten librarians: Miroslav KUNST, Vladimír LANDA, Václav SKUHRAVÝ, Ota OLIVA, Jiří ZAHRADNÍK, Ivo HODEK, Karel HŮRKA, Jan ŠKOUDLÍN, Pavel MUNCLINGER and currently Vladimír VOHRALÍK.

Librarian: Dr. Vladimir Vohralík (e-mail: vladimir.vohralik@natur.cuni.cz)
